Edo Govt Affirms the Postponement of 2020 Sports Festival

Flowing from the looming outbreaks of the deadly Coronavirus and subsequent directive of President Muhammadu Buhari, Ordering the immediate suspension of the 2020 Sports Festival, Edo State Government, has Affirmed the suspension of the forthcoming events.

The Deputy Governor of Edo state Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shiabu who is also the Chairman Local Organizing Committee, LOC, made the affirmation of the earlier postponed 20th National Sports Festival, by President Buhari during a press briefing in Benin City.

EDO 2020 Sports Festival which was initially scheduled to kick start on March 22 and end April 1, 2020, was shifted due to the wild spread of the Coronavirus.

In his statement, the Deputy Governor said, the postponement has become necessary due to the shutdown of socioeconomic activities around the globe as a result of the outbreak of the deadly scourge.

Comrade Shaibu maintained that, although, there is no presence of the pandemic disease in the country and Edo state government was fully prepared to host the games and handle eventualities that may arise due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, however, decided to stay on the side of caution and show sensitivity to the plight of other countries dealing with the challenge.

“We regret to announce the postponement of the 20th National Sports Festival (NFS), Edo 2020, initially scheduled to begin from March 22 to April 1, 2020” he stated.

He added that details on the new date will be communicated after due consultation with the relevant government agencies.
