An embattled State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lawrence Okah says he was suspended because of his closeness to the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.

He argued that his suspension did not follow due process, adding that no single individual has the power to suspend him.

Okah is the latest victim of the fracas between the state governor, Godwin Obaseki and his former boss, Adams Oshiomhole.

The duo fell out of a relationship after those loyal to Oshiomhole complained of neglects and disregards from the governor.

The Embattled Secretary’s Reaction

Reacting to his suspension, Okah told NAIJA CENTER that they suspended him on a baseless allegation that he sponsored Edo Peoples Movement (EPM), a group that is currently battling with Obaseki.

He said “I received a letter from the party chairman that I have been suspended from the party, that is it.

“What I know is that first and foremost, the party constitution does not give room to anybody, not even the governor, or the national chairman to suspend the Chairman or the Secretary of the party.

“That should come from your ward, your ward to the local government, and from the local government, it goes to the state executive. It is only the state executive that can recommend to the national executive for suspension, no individual can do that.”

He added “According to the letter from the party Chairman, Anslem Ojezua ordered by the governor, they were told that I was the one sponsoring one group called EPM.

“I don’t know them, I am the secretary of the party, how can I be sponsoring another group within the party?

“I even wrote a circular out three weeks ago that nobody should attend such a meeting. The main issue is that they said I am too closed to Oshiomhole.”

When asked if he was truly closed to Oshiomhole, Mr Okah said: “Of course, yes.”

On the actual reason he was suspended, Okah said “Everybody in town knows, they had to frame stories. If they were sure about the allegation, why didn’t they refer to the state exco that have almost about 30s members to look into it, but they didn’t do that, they just said suspension.”

Okah Suspended To Allow Investigation – State Chairman

Meanwhile, the party chairman said the secretary was suspended to allow for the committee set up to investigate him.

“He was just suspended to allow the committee set up to look at the complaints against him. We have not expelled him, no it is not like that.

“The suspension is not punitive it is just a normal administrative procedure,” he said.
