Why Buhari Handover Campaign To Tinubu – Jonathan’s Ex-Aide
Jackson Ude, a former Director of Strategy/Communication under former President Goodluck Jonathan said on Monday that President Muhammadu Buhari will not be travelling around the country to campaign for his re-election.
Jackson Ude, a former Director of Strategy and Communication under former President Goodluck Jonathan said on Monday that President Muhammadu Buhari will not be travelling around the country to campaign for his re-election.
This is following the announcement made by Mr President yesterday that he was handing over his campaign to the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Buhari had said that the decision was necessary in order not to make governance suffer.
Under normal circumstances, the President is supposed to be the Chairman of the APC Campaign Council, supported by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Tinubu as council’s co-chairmen.
Ude, in a tweet on Monday said Buhari’s decision was informed by his health not goverance, adding that the President was not competent.
He said “CONFIRMED: Buhari won’t be travelling around the country to campaign because of his health challenges. In his place, Tinubu would be touring the country, campaigning for Buhari.
“Now we can safely say Buhari is not only incompetent, clueless, he is also not healthy to run NIGERIA!”
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and a Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere have called on Buhari not to use it as an excuse to avoid the Presidential debate organized by Nigeria Election Debate Group and scheduled on the January 19, 2019.
He said, “President Buhari has only attended one campaign, which was the one held in Uyo (Akwa Ibom State capital). He is pushing people ahead to campaign for him because his chickens have come home to roost.
“It proves what we’ve been trying to say before that Buhari doesn’t have the energy and rigour to campaign.
“If he is giving someone else the task of leading his campaign, he could have as well given his presidential ticket to someone who has the energy.
“He should not use this as an excuse to be absent from the presidential debate.
“His excuse that he doesn’t want governance to suffer is not tenable. In the United States, United Kingdom, France and other great countries, campaign is part of governance because it is an avenue to interact with your people. Hence, Buhari should not hand over his campaign to someone else. “
Afenifere on the other hand, described the move by Buhari to handover campaign to Tinubu as deceitful.
The spokesperson for the group, Yinka Odumakin warned Buhari in a statement on Monday not to avoid presidential debate.
“If he tries to avoid the debate, it cannot work. Nigerians will not be wise to vote for anybody that is not ready to debate.”
The group also alleged that Buhari was deceiving Tinubu.
He said, “I think the whole thing is just to make Tinubu feel good and think he is being reckoned with. But in any case, it is said that those who don’t learn from history will repeat it.
“This confirms that there are political forces that see some personalities at desperate times as people they can just toy with and once they dangle some carrots before them, there will be no problem. “
