Saraki has never put Nigeria first – Oshiomhole
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC Adams Oshiomhole has continued his onslaught on the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
During a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, Oshiomhole restated his position that Saraki will be impeached, adding that he became the Senate President without regards for his party.
Oshiomhole noted that Saraki “has never put Nigeria’s National interest first,” nor has he put his party interest, adding that he has always put himself above national or party consideration.
He said “The Senate president has never put the Nigeria National interest first, he has never put his party interest first, he has at all times since he became the President has always from day one put his personal interest over and above any other consideration, whether national or party.
We tried to talk to him out of the conviction that as a presiding officer, there are rules of engagement and we don’t want him to get so emotional as to conduct himself in a manner that is offensive to the rules of engagement that presiding officers everywhere in the world are expected to observe.
Speaking on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alhaji Yakubu Dogara, the APC Chairman defended his action, denying that he has had any problem with the party.
He blamed Saraki for allowing his desperation for the seat of power make him support a PDP member as a deputy Senate President, while Dogara did everything differently.
It was senator saraki complaining that he was not given a juicy appointment, that Dogara was not also given. If those were the views of Dogara, it was not the right of Saraki to pilot because he is capable of speaking for himself. Saraki wants to drag everybody along with him. The APC and I as the Chairman have confidence in Dogara. I have had useful interactions with him, we have had a couple of meetings, he has shared issues that have to deal with issues in Bauchi states, I have shared with him that I am excited that we are getting positive results.
The speaker has no problem with APC and he didn’t do anything similar to what Saraki did. He merged as a speaker, he also makes sure as a patriot to make sure an APC member emerged as a deputy speaker. He wasn’t so desperate as to mortgage that position to a PDP member in order to cling on, he knows the difference between personal interest and a party interest
Saraki’s problem escalated few days after Oshiomhole emerged as the National Chairman of APC and the Senate President defected to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The APC had claimed that the embattled Senate President must step down since he rode to his current position on the platform of the party.
Attempt to unseat Saraki had led to a failed siege by the DSS at the National Assembly, which was condemned by Nigerians home and abroad.
