PDP vs APC: Presidential Tribunal Pospones Judgement

0 21

The Presidential election petition tribunal has postponed judgement in the petition the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari general election victory.

The five-man panel, led by Mohammed Garba said the tribunal reserved judgement, to be communicated to the parties in the future.

Garba disclosed the development after the petitioners (PDP) and respondents: Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) delivered their final written address.

The PDP dragged the INEC and APC to Tribunal challenging the election victory in the February 23 general election.

The party wants the Tribunal to declare its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar as the winner.

Atiku claimed he won at the polls by over a million votes, citing a server of the electoral commission.

The petitioners’ legal team led by Levi Uzoukwu argued that Buhari lied when he said he submitted his certificates to the military board.

The lawyers to INEC, however, argued that the petition lacked merit and substance, therefore, urged the tribunal to dismiss it.

They argued that the law required that a candidate must be educated up to secondary school level or its equivalent.
