Obaseki Endorsement: Edo PDP Distance From Ehanire-Danjuma
The Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State has distance itself from one of its Senators, Daisy Ehanire-Danjuma.
Senator Ehanire-Danjuma is one of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) and she reportedly attended the town hall meeting hosted in Lagos over the weekend by the Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
The Senator who represented Edo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly reportedly endorsed Obaseki’s second term.
In a statement on Monday by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare, the party described the move as “abnormal”.
The PDP said the Senator was on her own, adding that her endorsement is her private thoughts and did not represent the party.
“The comments, discussions and purported endorsements credited to her are her private thoughts and do not reflect the thoughts of Edo PDP.
“Edo PDP hereby disassociates itself from all that transpired between Senator Daisy Ehanire-Danjuma and the Governor. It is abnormal and not politically savvy for party leaders to endorse aspirants of another party other than the candidate of their party.”
The state described the endorsement as ” an abuse of such rights and privileges to openly and publicly endorse a candidate of another party. This action calls for your resignation from such exalted position!
“Being a member of the BOT confers some rights and privileges. It’s
The statement of endorsement is a morale-damper to the hard working, committed and loyal men, women and youths of Edo PDP.” It stated.
The Edo PDP assured that the party will nominate a candidate to contest the Edo State 2020 at the appropriate time in accordance with the party constituion.
It added that the candidate will “liberate the state from political arrogance, political rascality, poverty, insecurity, unemployment and unimaginable colossal debts. “
The PDP described Godwin Obaseki‘s administration for the past three and a half years as a “merry-go-round”, adding that the “commissioned” 5 star specialist hospital is still home to reptiles, Tayo Akpata University of Education, an unfulfilled political greek gift, College of Agriculture Ogierieki, a victim of policy lip-service, the gele gele sea port project is still a mirage and the industrial park is still at the MOU level.”
It stated that the crisis rocking the APC has traumatized Edo people. It argued that the alleged endorsed governor has left 14 constituencies unrepresented in the state house of assembly.”
