Edo 2016:Uzamere abandons PDP, resigns membership

By Ehi Ekhator.

A governor aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Senator Ehigie Uzamere has abandoned the party by resigning his membership on Monday.

This is coming barely two weeks after the state congresses of the party.

Though the reason behind his action was not made known, but it seems his consultation to fly the ticket in the next governorship election did not yield a positive result.

Senator Uzamere had assured NAIJA CENTER NEWS that he was in the race but consulting with families and friends. He also revealed that he was drawing up his plans which according to him then, would be released for the people in few weeks.

However, the recent development indicate that all is not well in the PDP camp.

Senator Uzamere is the only Senator who had spent two terms in the senate between 2007-2015, since the creation of Edo State.

However, in a statement signed by the senator and a copy made available to NAIJA CENTER NEWS, he said “after due consultation with my family and political associates, I have withdrawn my membership of the PDP.

“I wish to thank the leaders of the PDP at the national, state and local government levels for their unflinching support and provision of platform for my first term as senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Edo South senatorial district between 2007-2011.

“I also wish to thank the leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) as it were then, for their unflinching support and provision of the platform for my second term 2011-2015. My heartfelt appreciation goes to the general electorate of Edo South senatorial district for giving me their mandate for eight years, the first of its kind in Edo South senatorial district”.

When asked by NAIJA CENTER NEWS correspondent if he was still in the race now that he has resigned  membership from his party, the senator said “How, under which platform, for now, I am done with politics”

He is not confused at all; he should never have crossed into politics and his crossing into politics marked our acceptance of our role as a people cast at sea like so many others with members F the royal family vying for political office. The people in political office need a strong royal family and not the neutered one we have today unable to claim their rightful land even. Best news all day, we look forward to restoring a meaningful custody of our history, isee!
