Alleged Oshiomhole’s Thugs Arrested In Akwa Ibom: It’s A Great Shock, Says BIPA
The Benin Indigenous People Assembly (BIPA) has described the news of arrest of buses loaded with thugs allegedly from Edo State into Akwa-Ibom as a great shock.
BIPA in a statement shared with NAIJA CENTER NEWS said it was disappointed that some youths were still recruited to commit electoral violence in spite of the military warning against such, shows and wickedness of some of the politicians and political class.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP released a statement on some thugs that were arrested in Akwa Ibom on Wednesday morning to rig elections in the state.
The State PDP in Akwa Ibom claimed the thugs were arrested in 12 buses, adding that they allegedly came to work for Godswill Akpabio, a former PDP member who defected to the APC, Nsima Ekere and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the governorship and House of Assembly election held yesterday, 9th of Mar.
The PDP also accused the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole of orchestrating the thugs to rig the election, adding that “all the indigenes were from Edo State”
Reports revealed that 50 buses were sent but the first batch of 12 were arrested at the border between Akwa Ibom and Abia State at about 6.05pm, the PDP said.
Reacting in a statement, BIPA condemned the act of thuggery and political barbarism, as such is inimical to development of Nigeria.
The group therefore disassociated itself and frown at the deployment of young people to seek election victory through forms of electoral violence and infractions.
“The mention of names of Edo state origin in association with the arrested thugs, who were essentially youths is abominable and alien to our entrenched and globally renowned culture of civilization, peace and universally acceptable etiquette and public conduct, ” The group expressed.
Adding that “BIPA wishes to warn all desperate and despicable politicians, including those that were mentioned in the trending video, whose children are either overseas, or in their cozy offices in Nigeria’s corporate world , to desist from hiring unemployed and vulnerable youths and children of the underprivileged, for acts of electoral violence and thuggery, to enable them ascend to political offices. Such politicians should bury their heads in shame, especially as they have failed to fulfil their promises of providing jobs for the youths.
“We warn all such desperate politicians to desist from their ungodly ways or face eternal condemnation. We are also ready to declare the despicable characters public enemies of the Edos . Likewise, we implore our youths to eschew all forms of nefarious activities, and generate creative means of survival with all abundant opportunities , in an increasingly globalised world. “
BIPA appealed to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare 11 to bring strong and progressive stance against any politician as he has done against the syndrome of Yahoo boys and human trafficking.
“We fervently plead that Omo N’Oba should take more stringent steps against these wicked politicians misguiding our youths and leading them on the path of perfidy and destruction.
“The Oba of Benin should invoke the gods of great Benin Kingdom against such shameless and ignoble politicians who preserve their own and set the children of the poor on the path of destruction.”
