The author referred to a statement Buhari made during his interview in Washington where he made the popular 97% and 5% statement.

Omokri took to his verified handle on Saturday to express his views.

‘For Nigeria to grow into a nation that fulfills its destiny as the Giant of Africa and beacon of hope for the Black Race, it is not corruption we have to kill. Corruption is a symptom. It is not our disease. Tribalism is Nigeria’s biggest disease

‘Muhammadu Buhari signalled the fact that he would create first and second class citizens by saying in Washington that “The constituents, for example, gave me 97% cannot, in all honesty, be treated on some issues with constituencies that gave me 5%.”’

Omokri, 45, took a swipe at the Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

He described her as a tribalist who has never really hidden his disdain for some tribes in the country.

‘He introduced policies and surrounded himself with people whose words and actions give effect to his statement 5% V 97% statement. One of these persons is Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Mr. Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.’

‘Abike has not hidden her disdain for people of certain parts of Nigeria. This much was evident by her reaction after the Dubai robbery incident at the Al Ansari Exchange on March 20, 2019

‘While reacting to the Dubai robbery Abike said “We need to tell our brothers behaving badly to behave. Let’s get the names of those involved to NAME and SHAME them.” The threat was carried out. we soon knew the identities of those involved

‘But when several Nigerians were executed/arrested for drug offenses in Saudi Arabia, and another set for Internet and credit card/mortgage fraud in the United States, Abike DID NOT feel the same holy outrage she felt over the Dubai robbery.

‘She had no burning desire to “name and shame” those involved. When Saudi Arabia and the US (not Nigeria) eventually released the names, I understand Abike’s dilemma. No 5 preventers. The names were too close to her & Buhari for comfort’

The ardent critic of the current administration said the action of the President and his aides revealed how the Igbos in the country are treated like second class citizens.

“The words and actions of Mr. Buhari and his appointees, like Abike make clear that in their world view for Nigeria, people of Igbo descent are second class citizens not worthy of the full love, protection and projection of the state” He said.

The former aide was reacting to the release of Zainab who was detained in Saudi Arabia and was recently released after series of negotiation by the Nigerian government.

To further buttress his take on tribalism as the bane of Nigeria growth, Omokri said “While I rejoice at #FreeZainabAliyu, I ask that you take part in an experiment. Close your eyes. Imagine her name wasn’t Zainab but Ngozi, and it wasn’t Saudi, but Indonesia. Would Buhari and Abike have acted?

“President Buhari likes to say ‘if we do not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria.’ He is wrong. Nigeria is more corrupt today than in 2015 because ‘if we do not kill TRIBALISM, it will lead to corruption, which will kill Nigeria'”

Reno Omokri queried the silence from the Presidency after a Nigerian, Kaycee Madu emerged as the MLA-designate for Edmonton-South West and Alberta Minister of Municipal Affairs in Canada.

“Neither Buhari nor Abike acknowledged Kaycee Madu for his feat in becoming a Canadian minister. This is a government that‘d bend over backward to acknowledge their favoured 97 percenters if they win even a zobo drinking competition

“Hopefully, when Nigeria needs Mr. Madu’s help to secure aid and investment from Canada in future, both Buhari and Abike will belatedly praise his feat of being the 1st Nigerian minister in a G-8 nation. Until then, I wont hold my breath

“In 2018, 5 girls from Onitsha in Anambra, won the 2018 Technovation Challenge. It is the STEM Olympic. CNN celebrated them, but Neither Buhari nor Abike acknowledged them. If they were robbers, we wouldn’t have heard the last from them

“Buhari and Abike’s type of tribalism is why Nigerians do badly in Nigeria, but THRIVE abroad, to the extent that Amy Chua’s Battle Hill of the Tiger Mother was written about how to train up your child in the West, like a Nigerian parent

“Until we stop electing leaders, like Buhari, who think in terms of 97% versus 5%. Who see tribe and religion, first, second and last. Who love ethnicity more than merit. We will continue to chase our tails and think we are chasing corruption.

“Tribalism is why Buhari believes that Abacha, a BLOODTHIRSTY BUFFOON, a man convicted by multiple European law courts for theft of $5 billion, “did not steal”, yet says all his Southern PDP predecessors, who were never convicted, are thieves”
