Youth Corps Member Sentence To 1-month Imprisonment for Impersonation
A serving National Youth Service Corps member has been convicted to one-month imprisonment for obtaining by false pretence, the sum of $150
This was the decision of a Federal High Court sitting in Enugu.
Samuel Orie pleaded to impersonation and obtaining by false pretence before justice I.N Buba.
The Corper was charged to court by the Enugu Chapter of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Mr Orie had presented himself as an American Contractor, one Mr. Scott Gibb.
Speaking on the issue, the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said the defendant’s lawyer pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, saying his client was a first time offender.
The lawyer also begged that Orie was remorseful and was willing to make restitution for his actions.
The court, however, sentenced Orie to one month in imprisonment starting from the date of his incarceration.
The judgement also asked him to forfeit the said amount $150 and his mobile phone.
