Sowore was whisked away by the DSS in the early hour of Saturday in Lagos over his planned protest on Monday the 5th of August.

In an attempt to halt the protest, the DSS invaded his home, arrested him on the suspicion that he intends to take over the government.

Speaking with reporters on Sunday afternoon in Abuja, the SSS Spokesperson, Peter Afunanya said Mr Sowore, a social critic and publisher of Sahara Reporters was working with some international groups to throw Nigeria into anarchy.

Afunanya confirmed that the activist was in its custody because it called for a revolution in Nigeria.

He said “The DSS would not just sit by and watch someone or his groups or cohorts would want to rise and threaten the peace, unity, constitutionalism of our beloved country. Whether Sowore is with the DSS or not, the answer is in the affirmative, yes he is with us.

“Why is he with us? He has crossed the lines, he has threatened public safety, Sowore as a matter of fact threatened the peaceful coexistence, social harmony of Nigeria. What we are reemphasizing again is that we will act within the law, we act within democratic processes and procedures to ensure that whatever threats he has given, he or any groups of persons, his cohorts from anywhere.

“We are aware that he is working with some persons outside Nigeria to cause disaffection, chaos and to cause anarchy in the country and we will not standby to watch that happen.”

Afunanya added that “We want to use this opportunity to assure law-abiding Nigerians, friends of Nigeria, citizens of the world and indeed people of the world that come tomorrow 5th of August, 2019 that there will be absolute peace with Nigeria, nothing will happen, there will be any revolution, the government has been elected democratically and there will not be any hostile takeover.”
