UNIBEN: Group Gives Prof. Orumwense 14-days Ultimatum To Vacate VC’s Lodge
- Former VC and wife accused of series of corruption
- Contractors have not been paid since 2014
An Edo group, Edo Patriot Peoples Assembly has given the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. F. F. O Orumwense a 14-day ultimatum to vacate his premises in the campus.
Prof. Orumwense’s tenured ended in October 2019 which gave birth to his successor, Prof Mrs Lillian Salami.
NAIJA CENTER gathered that the Prof has retained the Vice Chancellor’s Lodge instead of vacating it for the new VC.
A source who craved anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue informed NAIJA CENTER that “The former VC is still resident in his former VC lodge even though his tenure has expired. He still has his security in place there. Prof Mrs Salami is living in temporary accommodation on the campus.”
NAIJA CENTER has a copy of the letter the EPPA sent on the 31st of January, 2020 giving the former VC a 14-day ultimatum to vacate the VC’s lodge voluntarily or be ready to face public humiliation.
According to the letter, the group expressed with consternation the malfeasance refusal of Prof Orumwense to quit the official residence for his successor, Prof Salami.
The ultimatum letter which copied the current VC and the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, added that “This development is causing tension amongst stakeholders of the University, it is therefore within our extant jurisdiction as host community organization to UNIBEN, to here and now issue a 14 days quit notice to the immediate past VIC Prof F.F Orumwense within which to evict the lodge or else we will stage a grand procession to the University lodge to effectively execute the quit notice.
“It is on that, that Prof Orumwense’s administration ridicule the success story of Prof. O. G. Oshodin judging by his infrastructural and human capital turnarounds owing to the lack of critical consultation and poor managerial acumen of Prof F F O Orumwense, this is coupled with his administration indispositions to well-meaning relationship with formidable non-state actors of Edo State extraction.
“It should be noted that this quit notice effective day of service takes place February 1, 2020, and by virtue of this 14-day eviction notice, it stands evicted by 16th of Feb and failing to comply by 16th, we shall state a grand procession with caskets traditional calabashes to effect his disgraceful eviction.
NAIJA CENTER news gathered that the former VC’s administration was laced with a series of corruption practices.
It was gathered that many contractors have not been paid since 2014 despite completing the projects contracted to do.
The corruption accusation spreads to his wife, Mrs Franca Oril Orumwense. (More details to come on this).
