SWAP Deal: Armed Bandits Release 30 Persons In Katsina State
As part of the deal between the Katsina State governor and armed bandits, some prisoners were released on Saturday.
The state government released some of the arrested bandits while the gunmen released 30 abducted persons.
The Governor, Aminu Masari received the kidnapped victims on Saturday.
The victims were brought to the government house by one of the bandits.
The bandits said the victims were held at Damsadau forest in Zamfara, a neighbouring state.
Eight of the victims are from Kankara local government area and the other 18 are from Shimfida in Jibiya local government council of the state.
Governor Masari assured that his administration would not stop to persuade the bandits to release more victims.
The victims are taken to the hospital for a medical check-up before they are taking back to their family.
Speaking, one of the victims, Zanatu Sani, TheCable reports, said the armed bandits kidnapped her from her home with two of her children.
Zanatu said they made them sleep in an alfresco for 55 days despite the weather condition.
She also said the bandits initially demanded N20 million ransom from her but later reduced it to N6 million.
The victim said she couldn’t pay despite the reduction in the ransom, adding that many people were still held in the forest.
An Islamic cleric, Sabiu Jibia had complained about the gravity of the crimes committed by the armed bandits in the state.
He lamented that the bandits’ rape women and children when they carry out their crime.
The cleric also complained that villagers now desert their farmlands and community for the fear of being their next victims.
The bandits killed 22 person and kidnapped scores of women during an attack in Zangon-Kankara and Makera in Kankara local government area of the state in July.
Similarly, the bandits kidnapped 38 persons in August in Wurma town, Kurfi local government area of the state.
