Respond over fulani attack on Edo people – Ifaluyi-Isibor tells Obaseki
A youth in Benin, Edo State, Engr. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor has called on the governor of the state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to respond to the continuous attack by Fulani Herdsmen in the state.
His call came after a young man, one of the youths protesting in Ewu over the raping and maiming of their people by the Fulani Herdsmen was shot.
Though the protest was peaceful, Mr Ehimen Abuya was shot by soldiers deployed to douse the tension in the area and was rushed to Irrua Specialist Hospital.
The youths were protesting over the raping and killing of two women in the community on Monday.
Ifaluyi-Isibor who seems to be unhappy over the development warned that if the governor did not respond to the attack, the people would have to protect themselves by all necessary means.
“All of a sudden, the security and welfare of the people is no longer the number one priority of the government.
“A few days ago, two women were raped and killed in their farms in Ewu,Edo State by suspected Fulani herdsmen who have invaded several communities in Edo State for eon now. There has been a plethora of killings in many of these communities and this menace has been sustained without any reaction from the government.
“The Youths in Ewu,took to a peaceful protest calling on the government to intervene and protect her citizens. In response,Soldiers were drafted to the scene of the protest and a young man was shot and killed by the Soldiers.
“There’s an escalation of insecurity in Edo State and there is supposedly a Government in Edo State who prefers not to address this growing concern of killings, maiming and raping by these terrorists.
“Let me announce to Mr Obaseki that if he doesn’t respond to these orchestrated and well planned attack on Edo State, the Edo people will do all they can to protect themselves. The shame is enough, the disgrace is enough, the killings are enough, the raping of our sisters and mothers cannot continue. The people will rise soon” He stressed.
