The wife of the president, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday, called for a review of the N10,000 fine against the rapist of a six-month old baby in Kano last year.

Aisha BuhariShe spoke at the Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja at a national workshop on War Against Abuse in Nigeria organized her Future Assured Initiative.

She charged the nation’s judiciary to review penalties on abuse in Nigeria in order to adequately address violation of the fundamental human rights of victims.

She observed that child abuse, human trafficking, child marriage, cyber bullying, domestic violence and abuse of the elderly remained a cause of concern despite legislative measures.

Mrs. Buhari harped on the need to educate people and raise necessary awareness on preventive measures and the need for immediate reporting of incidences to law enforcement agencies to take appropriate action. “This workshop,” She said, “will proffer workable solutions to addressing this social problem.”

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustafa, said Future Assured had done very well, asking other nongovernmental organisations to emulate the Future Assured.
