The executive Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde has tested positive for the Coronavirus.
Though he is asymptomatic, he has remained in self-Isolation.
Makinde disclosed this via his twitter handle on Monday.
He said he has designated a former Chief Medical Director of the University College of Ibadan to head the Covid-19 taskforce while he takes time to recover.
“I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result. It is POSITIVE. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate,” he tweeted.
“I have designated Prof Temitope Alonge, former Chief Medical Director of the University College, Ibadan, as the Head of COVID-19 Task Force while I recover fully. Please continue to comply with all the directives from the COVID-19 Task Force. Stay home, stay safe.”
Makinde is the third governor to contract the virus in Nigeria after the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and his counterpart, the governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed.
However, the governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri who met Makinde at a PDP rally that was widely criticized has tested negative for the virus.
Nigeria currently has 111 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the country.
The country had also discharged seven patients of the virus, while two have died.
