Oba of Benin begs Buhari to help Edo with security and infrastructure
Oba of Benin, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II on Thursday appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to help Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki tackle security and infrastructure challenges.
The traditional ruler made the appeal when he visited the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He described the security challenges in the state as multi-dimensional with “prevailing” kidnapping, cultism and human trafficking.
“Our governor and the people of Edo state need more support from the federal government to effectively and decisively tackle the security challenges in our state. May I use this opportunity to appeal to your Excellency to kindly assist our state governor in dealing with the security challenges in the state,” he said.
The royal father, who appealed to President Buhari to provide more infrastructure for Edo State, asked him to complete the Benin-Auchi Road dualization.
He asked the Federal Government to either develop low and medium scale cluster industries or establish factories in each local government area of the state to reduce unemployment.
He decried that despite the stabilising and developmental role of traditional rulers in the country, it is sad that their role is yet to be reflected in the constitution.
He stated: “The traditional institution will encourage Nigerians to go on with one Nigeria. We intend to continue to use culture to foster Nigeria image both in Nigeria and in the comity of nations.”
