Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a lawyer to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has dismissed the news that his client has been sacked as the Director of Radio Biafra.
A lady announcer on Radio Biafra who identified her name as Miss. Ifeoma Okorafor had said Kanu embezzled £14 million and another $22 million which he collected privately. He spent the money on properties abroad in his and his father’s name, according to the accuser.
“Kanu privately collected £14 million and another $22 million to purchase landed properties abroad in his name and that of his father, Mr. Igwe Israel Kanu, in a clear case of monkey dey work baboon dey chop,’’
“Kanu turned our collective struggle into a money-making enterprise for himself and his father,’’ Radio Biafra said.
The IPOB runaway leader had not been seen in the public since the Nigerian soldiers invaded his town and private home. Some of the agitators believed that the federal government had kidnapped him while other believed he is on the run.
The announcer on Radio Biafra gave several reasons for Kanu’s dismissal. According to her, the IPOB leader instigated its members to violence, derailing from the primary objectives of the movement which led to the death of many of its members in Aba, Onitsha, Umuahia which she described as “unacceptable and irresponsible”.
“Thus the monies contributed by enterprising and hard-working Igbo youths across the world are being collected and converted by one man and his father while pretending to be sacrificing for the cause.’’
Responding to the accusation, Kanu’s lawyer described the circulated news as fake, adding that it was never from the leaders of IPOB.
He told NAIJA CNETER NEWS that the group was concern about the whereabouts of its leader and to make sure the federal government produce him in court and not worried about an alleged sack.
Ejiofor said “In the continued absence of my client, I made contact with the leadership of ipob worldwide and confirmed that such fake news never emanated from them. IPOB is more concerned about the whereabouts of their leader and the possibility of him being produced in court by the military.
“Our application to get him produce in court is coming up on Friday this week for hearing. So dismiss the propaganda making round that my client has been sack by faceless group that has no identity. Thank you.”
Kanu was released in April 2017 leaving behind his co-detainees – Messers Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.
Since his release, the announcer added “These are our brothers who were arrested at the same time with him and they should not be forgotten. We hereby demand their release. “Kanu, since his release, has never spoken about them or appealed for the release of these our freedom fighters.
Instead, he has been going about collecting chieftaincy titles and having a messianic swagger that even allowed full-blooded Igbomen to kneel down and kiss his feet. “Kanu threw away the original meaning of our collective struggle for personal gain and vain glorification. IPOB believes in democracy as a solid base of any modern state, the rule of law, and will always reject violence in all its ramifications.’’
