The workers who accused the governor of being unfair, revealed that the government is using their fund to pay different contractors executing various projects presently in the state, while paying other civil servants in the state regularly and on time, wondering while the governor would hold them to ransom

Reacting to the accusation, the state governor cleared the air on his stand, saying that no worker of the local government councils’ will be paid unless they undertake a verification exercise.

Speaking through the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the governor, though did not make it clear how long the exercise would take, reminded them that the verification exercise was compulsory, and as such, no wonders will be paid until it was completed.

The workers on their own have taken a stand to protest if their salaries are not paid by next week. They said they may be forced to protest to the Government House, Yenogoa as their sufferings are becoming unbearable.

Bayelsa government had conducted a similar verification exercise for the state civil servants under the Civil Service Commission and workers of the state House of Assembly Commission last year.
