The police have said preliminary investigation into the killing of Yohanna Yakubu, a staff of Nigeria National  Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in Kaduna, northerwest Nigeria, Sunday has revealed that he was killed by  armed robbers. But his family insisted he was killed by hired assassins.

Yohanna, who was recently transferred from Port Harcourt Refinery to Kaduna Refinery  and younger brother  to NNPC Group Managing Director, Andrew Yakubu, was Sunday killed by unidentified gunmen along Kaduna-Kachia Road while on his way to attend a funeral at Zango-Kataf, Kaduna .

According to a family member, who spoke under anonymity at Andrew Yakubu’s residence when P.M.NEWS visited Monday morning, it was too early for the police to conclude that such  a planned killing was carried out by armed robbers.

“We have facts that he was assassinated and nothing more. The police should confirm from us before concluding,” he said.

Kaduna Police Public Relations Officer, Aminu Lawan, who confirmed the killing of Yohanna to P.M.NEWS, said the initial information gathered shows it was armed robbers that attacked and shot him and not assassins as some family members have alleged.

Meanwhile, a large number of sympathisers have besieged the Kaduna residence of the NNPC Group Managing Director.

Andrew Yakubu on Sunday moved from Abuja to Kaduna immediately he heard the news of the killing of his younger brother.

Newsmen was told that when he arrived his Kaduna residence at Narayi-High Cost and stepped out of his car, he broke down and wept uncontrollably.

“It took our elders some time to calm him down,” a source said.
