Edo Gov Declares interest for Vulnerable, Amidst COVID-19 Outbreak in the State.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control today, announced via its verified Twitter handle of Edo state recording its first case of COVID-19 pandemic.

Flowing from the recent development, Edo State has joined Abuja, Lagos, Oyo and Osun state in the fight against the deadly disease.

However, in a Swift reaction to the case of the Coronavirus outbreak recorded in the State, the Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, says, the state is interested in the support of the Vulnerable in the society especially the elderly.

The Governor, who made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Benin City, following a report of the First case recorded today, by the Country’s Disease Control Center, NCDC, stated that, three Isolated Centers, Irrua, Benin City and Auchi have been lined up to accommodate victims.

Obaseki, however, Ordered the prohibition of public gatherings until further notice, as well as, restraining workers below level 12 to stay at home with the exception of those on essential services.

The State Council on the COVID-19 headed by the Governor will meet, According to him, regularly to discuss measures.

While assuring the state of its commitments and his administration’s resolves to curb the pandemic disease, he enumerated social distancing and other steps as various means of curbing the spread of the virus.

The governor appealed to media organizations in the state to further accelerate their efforts in sensitization of the public.

Recall that, over 37 Cases have been recorded as at 1 pm Monday, March 23, 2020, in the Country with only one death recorded thus far.
