One cleric, Alfa Gasali Gafaru, has on Friday 17th February approached an Idi-Ogungun Customary Court at Agodi in Ibadan, Oyo State, accusing his second wife, Rashida Gafaru of disrespecting him and his senior wife.
In a statement before the court, He described Rshidat as a troublesome woman who has no respect for him and his first wife whatsoever.
”We got married four years ago when I had a misunderstanding with my first wife. ”But trouble started when my first wife on resolving our differences came back home.
”Rashidat always curses me and my senior wife. She also disregards me as the head of the family.
“I, therefore, urge this court to dissolve our Union. I pledge to keep to all the Court rulings as regards the upkeeps of the two kids in our marriage.
In her defence statement, 37 years old Rashidat pleaded with the court not to grant the wish of Her husband for a divorce, saying she was nursing a month-old baby.
She accused her husband that He conspires with his senior wife to frustrate her out of her matrimonial home.
She, however, denied ever cursing her husband and his senior wife, adding that “he is the one that treats me like a slave.”
The President of the court, Chief Mukaila Balogun, in His judgement said that though the Defendant was not tired of the marriage, hence the Complainant’s statements proved He is fed up and ready to quit the marriage.’’
He, therefore, dissolved the marriage and ordered a monthly payment of N8,000 by the petitioner to the defendant as upkeep allowance for the two children produced by the union.
