Nigeria Police has dispersed protesters at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos with a gun shot.
The Policemen and Soldiers had surrounded the stadium in an attempt to halt a planned protest tagged #RevolutionNow on Monday, 5 July. NAIJA CENTER NEWS had earlier reported.
According to TheCable report, the protesters arrived at the stadium at about 7am on Monday to kickstart the protest where they met a detachment of policemen at the entrance of the stadium.
One of the protesters, Eliaz Ozikup said they were discussing between themselves when the security men who were standing on the other side of the road crossed to them, warning them not to talk to the press.
“We were standing here, while they watched us from the other side. Suddenly, they moved on us and said we can’t talk to the press. We weren’t even talking to the press yet. We were addressing ourselves,” he said.
In defiance, the protesters started chanting, calling for the release of their leader, Omoyele Sowore who was arrested by the DSS in the early hour of Saturday at his home.
