Suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorist reportedly struck on Friday at about 6pm, security sources said.
Premium Times reported that 15 soldiers were killed in the attack.
The attack took place on a military base in Magumeri Local Government Area, in Borno State,
A captain, a lieutenant and 13 soldiers were killed in the attack while Nineteen was seriously inured.
The injured soldiers have been evacuated to the military hospital in Maiduguri for treatment.
The attack, which was first reported by Agence Frace Press on Friday was survived by 24 soldiers who later left the base to a safer military facility.
Boko Haram members reportedly cart away with heavy equipment belonging to the military. The weapons include anti-aircraft machine guns and Toyota Hilux Vehicles.
The death toll on the side of the terrorists was not immediately revealed, however, the Islamic STate in West Africa (ISWA) has claimed responsibilities for the attack on their propaganda channels.
On the 26th of April, a similar attack occured where a military base was overrun by the Boko Haram terrorists.
Five soldiers were kill on that day while dozens were reportedly missing and yet to be found.
Boko Haram attacks continued almost unabated despite the Nigeria government announcement of several defeats, partnered with those of the neighbouring countries, and allegedly took delivery of weapons.
The army has not issued a statement about the attack. A spokesperson did not immediately return requests for comments on Friday night.
