Boko Haram: Yobe military operation most successful – Buratai
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai on Wednesday said that military operation against Boko Haram insurgency in Yobe state is one of the most successful in the country.
The COAS disclosed this yesterday when he paid a courtesy visit to Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Al’Amin El-Kanemi II.
Buratai said the visit to the palace was to seek support and cooperation of traditional institutions in dealing with few security challenges that are insurmountable in the state.
“We noticed certain level of desperation on the side of the terrorists by attacking our troops on patrol. Damaturu is very strategic in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists. We come to see the challenges and know the way forward”, he said.
The COAS noted that the terrorists are still hiding in isolated and vulnerable locations, while calling on people in the state to provide useful and timely information to the military so that the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists would be cleared from the state and Northeast.
The Emir of Damaturu, in his remarks, attributed the relative peace enjoy in the state to efforts of the military and other security agencies, as well as political leadership in the state and the federal level.
He promised to continue to pray and cooperate with the military and others security agencies for them to succeed in the war against terrorism.
Also, the COAS, who spoke to the troops at the 3 Divisions Tactical Theatre, Damaturu said they should always remain on alert and vigilant.
He advised them to cooperate with other security agencies in the fight against the terrorists, adding that “more task should be done to clear the remnants of Boko haram insurgents”.
He congratulated the troops for doing very well in their operations and promised to arrange on how they would effectively carryout their duty comfortably in the state
