Boko Haram Has Killed Over 840 Soldiers, Says Ali Ndume
- Prove your claims, says Nigerian army
The Chairman Senate Committee on the army, Ali Ndume says the terrorist group, Boko Haram has killed over 847 soldiers for the past six years.
Ndume alleged that the fallen Nigerian soldiers were buried at a ceremery in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The Senator said the soldiers killed by the terrorists, buried in other military cemeteries were not part of the 847 fallen heroes he mentioned above.
Ndume said this while addressing reporters shortly after returning from Borno trip.
He said his visits exposed him to the inadequacy and under-equipped situation the soldiers have to deal with in confronting Boko Haram.
The Senator said the soldiers fighting Boko Haram were fewer, urging the government to recruit more troops.
He also talked about the allegation by the Nigerian government that some non-governmental organisations were working with Boko Haram, saying the Senate was already investigating the claims.
The Nigerian army shutdown Mercy Corps and Action Against Hunger in September.
Provide Evidence Of The Killing Of 847 Soldiers – Army Replies Ndume
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has challenged Ndume to prove his claim that over 840 of its fighters have been slaughtered by Boko Haram.
The army dismissed the Senator’s claim in a statement signed by its spokesman, Sagir Musa.
“If he says so, then he should substantiate. What is his source? Let him provide it,” TheCable quotes the spokesman as saying.
It could be recalled that The Wall Street Journal reported in August that the Nigerian military had secretly buried over 1000 soldiers killed by Boko Haram in Maiduguri.
The newspaper quoted a military source who alleged that the figure could even be higher.
