The camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been quiet since the release an recorded audio allegedly belonging to Rotimi Amaechi.
The Minister of Transportation doubling as the Director-General of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Campaign Organization, Mr Rotimi Amaechi was heard in an audio critizing the President’s administration.
Both Amaechi, the Presidency and the party have remained mute, refusing to comment broadly on the audio.
NAIJA CENTER NEWS had attempted to call the Minister’s aide, David Iyofor yesterday but to no avail. Meanwhile Ibim Semenitari an ex-media aide of Amaechi claimed that the content of the leaked audio was deliberately twisted
Semenitari said ” It is possible that the Honourable Minister has also on some occasions spoken about the frugality of the Buhari regime but he did so not in the context of negativity but as a positive indication of a new Nigeria where pain will ultimately translate to gain. Again I say this with the privilege of knowing his governance worldview in this regards. “
Punch Newspaper quoted a source who expressed disbelieve over the tape, urging the former governor of Rivers State to react.
“I’m not sure the minister could make such a remark. He has benefited so much from this government,” the source said.
“But we are not sure yet. We would rather want the minister to speak on the audio,” another added.
We Haven’t Listened To The Audio – APC
However, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu claimed he has not listened to the audio.
He said, “I have not seen the leaked tape to listen to it and as such cannot comment on it.”
Phrank Shaibu, the special assistant on public communications and strategy to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar released the tape on Sunday.
He said the audio showed that even those working closely with the President do not have confidence in his administration.
Amaechi was heard saying that “The president does not listen to anybody. He doesn’t care. You can write what you want to write. The president doesn’t care. Does he read? He will read, he will laugh. He will say ‘come, come and see, they are abusing me here’.
“In fact, there was one case of somebody in Onitsha, a trader in Onitsha who couldn’t sell his goats during Sallah. And I was with Oga on the plane and the man was busy abusing Buhari. He said, ‘Amaechi, come, what is my business with Onitsha goat seller?’”
“These are not things you publish, if you publish it you will never sit with me. Three years of Buhari everybody is dying, crying. Pressmen are crying, farmers are crying, workers are crying, politicians are crying, students are crying.
“Only three years o. The rate of poverty is very high. Nigeria will never change, nothing will ever change. The only way things can change is when everyone is killed, this country is going nowhere, you know, I am not joking o”
“When Magnus (Abe) was my Secretary to the Rivers State Government, I told him this country was hopeless and helpless and he told me, ‘Oga, stop it. This cannot be coming from a governor.’ But two months later in Abuja, Magnus came to meet me and said, ‘I agree with you; this country is hopeless and helpless. All they do in Abuja is to share money.’
PDP Reacts To Leaked Audio
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) said on Sunday that the content of the audio exposed the APC that it does not have plans for Nigeria.
The National Publicity Secretary of the opposition, Mr Kola Olagbondiyan addressed journalists about the audio. He said the audio revealed the deception and contrivances of the APC to win the 2015 election.
Ologbondiyan said, “I think he (Amaechi) has a huge responsibility to defend himself. But if his principal, President Buhari, feel the tape is normal, it is not our business in the PDP.
“What is out in the public domain is just a demonstration to Nigerians about the lies, deceptions, contrivances and beguilement that the APC has deployed to win the 2015 election. It shows they have no plans, no agenda and no vision in whatever form as far as governance is concerned for Nigerians.”
A former ally turned political adversary of the Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike who is also the governor of Rivers State, described Amaechi as “a greedy man”
This was his response to the leaked video which he communicated through his twitter handle.
Wike said ” It’s only a greedy man that supports a world renowned failure because of momentary gains. I have known Amaechi from day one and greed has separated him from every one he was once close to. The leaked tape says all. “
There are speculations that the Presidential cabals are mounting pressure on Mr President to sack Amaechi as his DG over the leaked audio.
A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode called Amaechi a betrayal who had betrayed his allies in the past.
He said “Rotimi Amaechi betrayed Odili, betrayed Obasanjo, betrayed Wike, betrayed Jonathan and betrayed Buhari. What else do you expect from a pot-bellied creek Haramite? No decency, no character, no class, no dignity, no honor, no self-respect, no loyalty. He is filth and I pity him. “
The ex-governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose said Amaechi was a marketer who did not have confidence in his product.
“When a marketer tells you the product he is marketing is bad and those who used it in the last three and half years are suffering the consequences, what reasonable minds do is to run away from such product.
“Amaechi, the Chief Marketer of President Buhari has said it all. “
