Professor Imuetinyan Lilian Salami, the newly appointed substantive vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, (UNIBEN), Says her administration will leverage on increasing funding and sustainable initiatives by activating the Internally generated revenue.
She stated this yesterday while unveiling, a 7-point strategic plan for the next five years in her inaugural speech, at the Main Auditorium of the University.
Prof. Salami, who is a professor of Home Economics and Nutritional Education, promised to reposition the security architecture of the institution and prioritize quality academic programmes, research, enhanced Staff, and students welfare.
She also threatened to sanction any Faculty and Staffers who constitute themselves as a clog in the wheel of progress.
According to her, “Such staff will be compulsorily retrained and appropriately re-deployed and if such Staff is un-trainable, other actions will be considered.
The VC who sued for cooperation of students, Staff and Management to make the institution rank among global best, explained that in infrastructural deficit in the University Campuses, her “leadership will show authenticity, anchored on honesty without being self-righteous and accepting that all are vulnerable”.
“As we all know, you cannot keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. If the University of Benin is to achieve ggreater height we must all change our ways of working, attitude, mindset and orientation. It is indeed the responsibility of all of us to join hands in total devotion to the same cause – one greater than our individual desires”, she said.
Earlier, Presenting the newly elected VC, Prof. Salami to the Students, Staff and Management of the institution, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Faraday Orumwense in an emotion-laden voice, described the smooth transition as memorable.
He charged the Management of the School to extend a similar level of cooperation he enjoyed during his tenure as VC to his successor.
On her part, the Registrar of the University, Dr Otasowie Oshodin, said the expectation from the new leadership of the University, is great while the task is enormous.
34 years after the first female VC, Prof. (Mrs) Grace Alele-Williams’ tenure, Prof. Imuetiyan Lilian Salami is appointed as the 10th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin during the 157th regular meeting of the Governing Council of the University.
