Edo Since 1999: Politics Of Same Cartels, The Need For Paradigm Shift
More than two decades of unhindered Democratic rules in Edo State after the country’s army handed power to Civilian leader, many questions have been raised by Citizens over their fate.
The hopes of many who fought for democracy and believed in transformation have been quashed.
The State glistened in shades of emerald and jade, with the hope of fresh breath to participatory governance through the anticipated Practices of Democracy.
The expectations had been that those who were left to handle the responsibilities are familiar with the intricacies of their culture and ethical behaviourism of the people.
Two decades have gone, the egg heads are still around with frivolities, and never tired of being part of the old and the new systems.
The internal bleeds have been, whenever you wake up from a horrible dream, the faces you see are those who have stirred the sheep for the number of years spent in the fourth republic.
Taken into account the number of years these revolving cartels have spent in power since the inception of the Fourth Republic and what they can boast they have offered within then, we are better not waste our time.
Unarguably, the need for a paradigm shift in the system should be the pursuit of the common man in the street not otherwise.
In a sane society, social theory can usefully be conceived in terms of four key paradigms: functionalist, interpretive, radical humanist, and radical structuralist.
However, Looking at the lists of those fronting various political parties today, it is a clear indication of the literature of Positivism and Interpretivism Paradigms.
The hard fact is that most followers of these so-called political leaders do not have an idea of how and when these people have stayed around and manipulated them.
Every election year the game stars are unrepentant, not willing to know surging consequences that befall their followers.
Chief amongst the egg heads is Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion who was born May 13, 1957, and became the governor of Edo State from May 29, 1999, to May 29, 2007, under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Igbinedion was preceded by Anthony Onyearugbulem who was the last military administrator before the advent of Democracy.
During Lucky’s 8-year spell in the office most of the present crop of politicians today prominently featured in his regime.
For twenty years and counting, they have been around wether for negative or positive criticisms.
First of the Prime actors who held sway in Igbinedion’s Administration is Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who was the Chief of Staff from 1999 to 2003 and Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu was also ACN, National Vice Chairman, as well as and Campaign Manager, Oshiomhole’s campaign organization. He led the Grace Group.
After his spell with lucky Igbinedion and as Oliver twist who is never satisfied, he also ventured in different capacities across party lines as Governorship candidate or head of the campaign team in such instance.
Reportedly, Lucky Igbinedion once told his close friends that Osagie taught him how to “keep his tracks clean in underhand deals”.
His quest to become the governor of the state is unexplainable and higher than a hungry lion and seeking fresh blood from its preys.
He was succeeded shortly by Prof Oserheimen Osunbor who was later booted out through the court judgments that favoured Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole won the ticket in the Court as ACN Governor, Edo State, in 2008. After his first Tenure, he re-contested and defeated Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on his way to Second term in office which ended in 2015.
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was a PDP Member and supporter Glory 2003, Lucky Igbinedion’s Campaign Organization. He Accompanied Lucky Igbinedion to many of his numerous jamborees and cruises to the West Indies and South America between 2003 and 2007.
His regime fought to oust Godfatherism in Edo Politics and won with the backings of the people who felt as at then, they were badly oppressed.
Oshiomhole was widely celebrated for his near positive activisms that sounded like the final straw for the Godfathers in the State who monopolized the existence of the chagrined society. Even the blinds could see that the people were timely librated.
His closest ally, Chief Lucky Igbinedion was the ACN, Financier / Godfather PDP Governor, Edo State 1999 – 2007.
Another face who told the people of Edo state he was going to resign to his Chambers after his stewardship as Deputy Governor, in 2015, was Dr Pius Odubu.
Before then, Dr Pius Odubu was a PDP Member House of Representatives 1999 to 2007 when he moved to ACN and became Deputy Governor to Comrade Oshiomhole for another eight years.

From the list above, it is obvious that those in the old PDP now amalgamated from ACN to APC wasted the resources of Edo State for another 8-year after the people repelled against Igbinedion.
Most of them are prominently today, fronting the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in the state.
They were in Comrade Oshiomhole’s Government using a brand new name, ACN, and later to APC to deceive Edo people.
It was alleged that Oshiomhole supported Lucky Igbinedion to power in 2003 and Lucky Igbinedion, in turn, used his power and the resources of Edo people to install Oshiomhole as his successor. What a pity!
Two hidden friends with similar habits and lifestyles are responsible and manipulating the politics and economy of Edo State to their selfish advantage.
Another evidence of their Collaboration is that Chief Lucky Igbinedion was accused of using state funds when he allegedly brought a South African contractor, Verissimo Taverns to build his palatial mansions in Benin and Abuja.
Oshiomhole in a recent revelation, also seen as using state funds, commissioned the same contractor to build his multi-billion naira estate in his hometown of Iyamho. Two of a kind!
Edo needs a change from the old ways to the new sensitive political reformation that would conform with the ideologies of the western paraphernalia. That change can only come by voting out the old Political bandits and their godfathers still driving the seat of Power.
The elites must realise that these people are hell-bent on determining their future and must rise to defend the true meaning of democracy.
Although not all of these names mentioned are unreasonable, a large chunk of them wants power desperately. They have been around since the Fourth Republic actively.
Governorship poll is fast approaching and the people must think and act fast.
If that is done, Edo people will have a truly new beginning that will ensure adequate security, peace and progress backed by real technicalities.
