Fed Govt targets five million jobs

1 3

An initiative to create a minimum of five million jobs within the next two years through the empowerment of micro enterprises and reduction of unemployment via the establishment of the National Enterprise Development Programme (NEPED) was unveiled in Abuja yesterday.

The Federal Government’s project, which is spearheaded by the  Ministry of Trade and Investment, is to be coordinated by the Bank of Industry (BoI), Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN) and Industrial Training Fund (ITF).

President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to launch the Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Council soon.

Besides, the Office of Chief Economic Adviser and National Bureau of Statistics are working on credible data on economic indices – especially those that have to do with job creation, to keep Nigerians abreast regularly of the progress made.

Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr Olusegun Aganga, said at the stakeholders meeting that  out of the over 17 million enterprises in the country, 25,000 top enterprises with sellable products have been picked and would be assisted with funding.
