Central Bank loans are being disbursed to politicians – Farmers raise alarm
The Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Kebbi Sttate has pointed out that the N14 billion Anchor Borrowers Loan by the Central Bank of Nigeria was not disbursed to the actual farmers but to politicians.
The group said that over 90 percent of those who were given the loan are not the Rice and White farmers in Kebbi.
This was contained in a statement signed by the state secretary of the association, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Birnin Kebbi.
Idris at a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi said “The money was given to politicians and other people who are not real farmers; the real farmers were sidelined.”
He said because of this the state could only realize 1,000 metric tons of rice against the one million metric tons it promised the federal government.
“By the end of this year, they could only realize 400 trucks of rice which amounted to less than 1,000 mertic tons of rice,” he said.
“At the initial stage we were involved in the Anchor Borrowers programme but we were sidelined when the loan given by the CBN was to be disbursed,” he said.
